A video showing the aftermath of the strike that killed Shahed captured her sprawled on the ground next to her friends, her pink pants impossible to miss. Every time she came in, she said, ‘Mom.’ I would say, ‘My soul, my soul,’” Awda Talla told CNN. An analysis of the site of the attack, documented by a freelance journalist working for CNN in Gaza, paints a very different picture of Israeli military responsibility. Israeli military’s shifting responseCNN has pressed the Israeli military for details about the strike, which took place on April 16 at about 3:40 p.m., according to video evidence. The Israeli military declined to provide any additional evidence to back up its claims.

Dozens of people appear to be running around in panic, screaming and trying to count and carry the dead bodies. Family members are seen crowding over their loved one’s dead bodies, kissing them, holding onto them and sobbing. Video from inside a morgue at the hospital shows families trying to identify their loved ones among the deceased.

Since October, unrelenting war has squeezed people farther and farther south, pushing them to Rafah, the final stretch of Gazan territory before the Egyptian border. Now this small section of Gaza, which already has experienced an abundance of suffering, faces the prospect of additional hardship and heartache. Parties to the conflict have blatantly committed grave violations against children – including killing, maiming, kidnappings, attacks on schools and hospitals and the denial of humanitarian access. Injured children are reporting to the few remaining functional hospitals with severe burns, injuries that require amputation, open wounds and other serious traumas. Most of the children in Rafah have already been displaced multiple times by the fighting in Gaza, in direct contravention of international law.

Washington CNN —President Joe Biden and King Abdullah II of Jordan met Monday aiming to figure out how to move the Israel-Hamas war into a new phase in which Israeli hostages are released and fighting stops for a prolonged period of time. “The key elements of the deal are on the table,” Biden said while addressing reporters alongside the king at the White House. “We cannot stand by and let this continue,” the Jordanian king told reporters. The president’s supporters have frequently pointed to the Israel-Hamas war as evidence of Biden’s mental faculties being in good shape. The Jordanian and Egyptian governments have called for a ceasefire in Gaza, while Biden has resisted making a similar call.

Israel’s military released footage with blurred faces that it says shows Hamas militants taking hostages into Al-Shifa Hospital on Oct. 7. WSJ spoke to friends and colleagues of captured Nepali student Bipin Joshi, whom they believe to be one of the men in the video. Photo: Scene from a video released by Israel Defense Forces/circle illustration by WSJThe footage held little more than a grainy flicker of a young man being bundled through the hallways of Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital by armed militants, but to friends and colleagues his identity seemed clear: It was Bipin. Nepali student Bipin Joshi, 23 years old, had last been seen on the morning of Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack, dragged away by militants who had killed 10 of his countrymen in the southern Israeli kibbutz where they harvested oranges and lemons. Since then, a small number of Nepali diplomats, local volunteers and Bipin’s friends had been piecing together fragments of evidence to answer a basic question: Did he survive?

Video showing chaos with audible gunfire inside the Rabaa al-Adawiya hospital in Cairo, Egypt in August 2013, has been falsely shared online as showing Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) inside the Al Shifa hospital in Gaza in 2023. The miscaptioned video circulated online after Israeli troops entered the Al Shifa hospital on Nov. 15 after a days-long siege. Israeli forces say that the hospital covers tunnels used by the Islamist group Hamas, a claim that has been denied by the group, Reuters reported. “Israeli forces shooting inside al shifa hospital” read posts sharing the old video on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter (archived). The video, however, was uploaded to YouTube (archived) by Egyptian news outlet Rassd News Network (RNN) in mid-August 2013 and depicts shooting inside the Rabaa hospital.

A doctor inside Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital has spoken to CNN about conditions inside the facility, accusing Israeli forces of pushing around staff and questioning them about Hamas. Israeli forces have been inside the hospital complex for days, looking to uncover what they say is a major Hamas underground base. Appealing for more international support, El Mokhallalati said Israeli forces had only made a single delivery of water and food to the hospital. Some context: Al-Shifa, the largest hospital in Gaza, has become a flashpoint in Israel’s war in the besieged enclave. The Israeli military alleges the facility is being used by Hamas as a shield for its operations and raided the hospital last Wednesday.

CNN —A 65-year-old Israeli woman who was kidnapped by Hamas militants on October 7 has been found dead near Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital, the Israeli military said Thursday. The body of Yehudit Weiss, a resident of kibbutz Be’eri, was found by Israeli soldiers in Gaza City and brought back to Israel, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement. The IDF said her body had been recovered from what it called a “structure” near to the Al-Shifa hospital, where the IDF on Wednesday launched what it called a “precise and targeted” operation against Hamas, which it says has been using the hospital for military purposes. Hamas and hospital officials have consistently rejected Israel’s claims that Hamas has built a command center under the hospital. The Hostages and Missing Person’s Families Forum, a group established by the families of those abducted by Hamas, said Weiss was a 65-year-old grandmother.

Israel and the U.S. allege Hamas hides a key command center under the hospital, a claim which Hamas denies. Photo: Ahmed El Mokhallalati/ReutersWASHINGTON—The U.S. assessment this week that Hamas and other Palestinian militants were operating within Gaza’s largest hospital complex was based in part on intercepted communications of fighters inside the compound, people familiar with the matter said Wednesday. The signals intelligence, which was picked up in recent weeks, was among several pieces of U.S.-gathered information, the people said. And it was among the information that led the White House and Pentagon to announce Tuesday for the first time that the U.S. believed Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, also known as PIJ, were using Al-Shifa Hospital “as a way to conceal and support their military operations and hold hostages.”

CNN —The Israeli military is carrying out a “precise and targeted operation” in Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital, according to a statement by the Israel Defense Forces, and Israeli tanks have moved into the hospital complex, a journalist inside the hospital told CNN. “We can see them pointing the guns of the tanks toward the hospital. The Israeli operation is taking place in a “specified area” of Al-Shifa Hospital, according to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which again accused Hamas of continuing to use the hospital for military purposes – claims Hamas and hospital officials have repeatedly denied. A doctor inside Al-Shifa told CNN they were given 30 minutes’ warning before the Israeli operation began. The Israeli statement said, “The IDF is conducting a ground operation in Gaza to defeat Hamas and rescue our hostages.

Israeli forces said they were engaged in fierce fighting early Saturday around Gaza City’s Al-Shifa Hospital, where Israel says Hamas has positioned fighters near thousands of displaced people and hundreds of patients amid worsening conditions at the facility. Hospital officials said doctors were using scant remaining medical supplies to treat wounded people as the battle in the area intensified, the hospital largely operated without electricity and water ran desperately low. There were no indications that Israeli troops had entered the hospital complex as of Saturday morning or whether Hamas fighters were inside it.

American intelligence agencies estimate that a deadly blast at a Gaza hospital on Tuesday killed between 100 and 300 people, but cautioned that their assessments could change, according to U.S. officials and an unclassified intelligence assessment. The unclassified estimate was made Wednesday evening as U.S. officials worked to determine the cause and casualty toll from the blast. But intelligence officials cautioned that they do not fully understand what happened at the hospital and are continuing to collect information. “Israel Probably Did Not Bomb Gaza Strip Hospital,” said the unclassified intelligence assessment drafted on Wednesday. That technology has proved critical to the American assessment that Israel was not responsible for the blast at the hospital.

LONDON, Oct 19 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Israel’s growing gas sector has a significance that extends east and west. Analysts at Israel’s Bank Leumi had estimated that exports would jump to at least 11 bcm this year. Israel’s 1,087 bcm of gas reserves in 2022 yielded 21 bcm of production, of which 9 bcm was exported, with a doubling of exports to Israel’s main market, Egypt. A video of a missile launch captured in Gaza that dates to at least August 2022 has been falsely shared as footage showing a missile that struck Gaza’s Al-Ahli al-Arabi hospital in October 2023. The Palestinian Authority said an Israeli air strike on Oct. 17 killed hundreds of people at the Gaza hospital, while Israel said the blast was caused by a failed rocket launch by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group. The video was filmed in Gaza, but it predates the air strike in 2023. The hospital that was hit on Oct. 17, 2023, is located around 400 meters away from the municipality complex.
